Quilt-N-A-Flash has pioneered a very unique and revolutionary set of quilting stencils used to speed up the process of creating half square triangles … and much more. These stencils, the HSTSystem, were inspired by the inventor’s own desire to make this tedious task of making half square triangles for quilting patterns easier and faster without giving up accuracy. After many iterations and manufacturing challenges, in July 2015 the company launched and offered the HSTSystem to other quilt enthusiasts.

The excitement among the quilters who have used the HSTSystem, or see it for the first time, has been extraordinary. Why? In many quilt patterns, quiltmakers have to laboriously create hundreds of perfect half square triangles to produce one quilt. Now, the time of hard labor has come to an end. With our stencils in hand, you will eliminate the repetitive and mind-numbing tasks required to assemble the most common quilt block unit and dramatically reduce fabric waste. The HSTSystem is so easy and efficient to use quiltmakers can make hundreds of perfect half square triangles if a few hours instead of weeks or even months.

This efficient set of stencils has multiple uses. Quiltmakers can use them as templates to speed up the process of making square in a square blocks, three color triangle blocks, or quarter square triangle blocks (four color or hourglass). Cutting perfect triangles for any quilt pattern is amazingly fast. Some of our clients use them as to mark quilt tops for quilting the quilt. We never thought of using them as templates for quilting patterns, but we tried it and liked it enough to use it again! Cheryl Matzen is an award winning quilter, lecturer, teacher, quilt designer, and the inventor of a revolutionary set of quilting tools, the HSTSystem. After retiring from the fast paced high-tech industry and raising her family, Cheryl started her own business, Quilt-N-A-Flash; an uncharted effort for her stirred by her real passion, quilting. Her journey into the art of quilting was inspired by her grandmother at the age of eight. Today, many decades and quilts later, her passion for quilt making is still going strong. Her mission is keep the art and legacy of quilting alive and thriving by inspiring people of all ages to learn how to or continue quilting!

In competitive quilt shows, her quilts have claimed Best in Show, Viewer’s Choice, Best Theme Quilt, and multiple First Place awards. She enjoys lecturing and teaching, and has been a guest speaker and taught at many quilt groups and quilt shows across America.

Her invention, the HSTSystem, was featured in the McCall’s Quick Quilts April/May 2017 edition, and was inspired by her own desire to make quilts easier and faster for anyone. She is constantly on the lookout for simple methods and enjoys passing them along. Her classes focus on building skills and confidence for beginners or expert quilt enthusiasts. Cheryl is passionate about your quilting success. Her teaching goal is to inspire others to love learning the art of quilting while having fun. And, at the end of the day, quilters surpass their own expectations.

Cheryl is a dedicated quilter and says, “Making and gifting quilts is part of my life. It’s my way of expressing my creativity and giving the comfort of wrapping up in a beautiful, cozy quilt to others.”

Although she enjoys her Quilt-N-A-Flash business, teaching, and making quilts, her first love is her husband, John, and her family. She was born in Idaho and really loves the outdoors. Watch for her enjoying National Parks, fishing, entertaining her family and friends, gardening, or hugging her grandson, Logan.
